The pilates legend
The Tale of Joseph Pilates
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there lived a man who dedicated his entire life to improving his physical strength. Everybody in Paris knows the story of Joseph Pilates, who started one of the most dynamic Pilates companies of today. Born in 1883, Joseph was a sickly child, who suffered from asthmas, rickets and rheumatic fever. Joseph Pilates spent the first year of his childhood in Germany, his father was an enthusiastic gymnast and his mother was a naturopath. He often trained to gymnastic, body building and martial arts. By the age of 14 he was fit enough to pose for anatomical charts. Since that period he mixed all the method and was known as the “Father of Pilates”, but it was his apprentice who brought international recognition to the Pilates name. Eventually, Moira Merrithew transformed Joseph Pilates method into a contemporary approach, world-renowned, multinational STOTT PILATES, company.
